The Flemish Brueghel family produced five generations of artists during 150 years. The most famous one: Pieter Bruegel the Elder, is the first of the 16th-century ‘Bruegel dynasty’ of artists. Breughel: the exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, traces his heritage with about 100 paintings, many of them from private collections and rarely seen in public, and highlights the beauty of Flemish art through landscape, genre and still life paintings made by the ancesters of the Breughel mentioned above.
