On Stilts
My youth was influenced by a storybook with a picture of a little hut on crow’s feet. Pretty scary for my tender age, but this wooden treehouse, the Too High Tea House, clearly houses the good fairy.
Architect Terunobu Fujimori has an entire collection of houses on stilts. This teacher of architectural history is a late-bloomer as an architect: he only started in his forties. Since then he’s made a fantastic building every year. He’s not only wilful in his shapes, but also doesn’t have a website or studio, and asks talented students to assist him.
