Embassies of Design

Thursday 30th of January WOTH Gallery hosted the first kick-off diner introducing the NEW concept Embassies of Design powered by Festival Designkwartier Den Haag. 

A variety of international guests; the Ambassadors of Brazil, Estonia and Italy, the trade officer from the Danish Embassy, representatives of innovative brands and talented designers joined us for a lovely diner prepared by the illusive Creative Chef accompanied by a selection of great wines by Baltazar.

DESIGNKWARTIER

Edwin Pelser, initiator of Designkwartier explained why the earlier formula, presented between 2012 and 2018 in five yearly editions, now transforms into the new Embassies of Design festival to be mounted for the first time in May 2020. Toon Lauwen, who is in charge of contacts and preliminary programming informed  guests on the goals and rationale behind the new model. The reasoning is quite simple. By connecting to the embassies in The Hague as agents of cultural exchange, we can conceive the first international design-festival in The Netherlands.

DIPLOMATIC NETWORK

Addressing the diplomatic network in The Hague, seems the most logical step forward in creating a platform for young designers and creative professionals. Embassies of Design aims at a two phase setup: a string of preliminary events at the embassies in 2020, to be followed by a public festival in 2021. The plans met great enthusiasm.
